China: C919 Celebrates One-Year Anniversary with New Deliveries

The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) handed over its sixth C919 aircraft to China Eastern Airlines. The latest addition, registered as B-919G, was ferried from Shanghai Pudong International Airport to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport the following Tuesday morning.

Celebrating its one-year anniversary of commercial operation since its inaugural flight from Shanghai to Beijing on May 28, 2023, the C919, China’s premier domestically produced large passenger aircraft, continues to make strides. This delivery marks the first of the additional 100 C919 aircraft ordered by China Eastern.

Notably, compared to its predecessors, this new aircraft, according to the company, boasts upgrades in both the cockpit system display and the cabin entertainment system.

Looking beyond domestic routes, China Eastern announced plans to operate a charter flight from Hong Kong to Shanghai on June 1, as shared by the company’s chairman, Wang Zhiqing. This marks the C919’s maiden commercial flight beyond mainland China, extending the reach of this domestically manufactured large passenger aircraft.

During its inaugural year of commercial service, the C919 has been serving three routes from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport: to Chengdu Tianfu International Airport in Sichuan Province, to Beijing Daxing International Airport, and to Xi’an Xianyang International Airport in Shaanxi Province.

With the arrival of this new batch, China Eastern aims to expand its C919 fleet to 10 aircraft by the year’s end.
