Andre Onana: Inter CEO confirms Manchester United’s interest

Manchester United has expressed their interest in Onana, but they have not yet presented a formal offer.

Manchester United, one of the most prestigious football clubs in the world, is reportedly showing keen interest in signing goalkeeper Andre Onana. The Cameroonian shot-stopper currently plays for Inter Milan.

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has confirmed that Manchester United has expressed interest in goalkeeper Andre Onana, although they have not yet presented a formal offer.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is in search of a new first-choice goalkeeper as David de Gea’s contract is expiring and renewal talks have not been finalized. Out of respect for De Gea’s personal time due to his upcoming wedding, face-to-face negotiations will resume afterwards.

Ten Hag has refrained from confirming De Gea as the preferred goalkeeper for the upcoming season, citing a series of errors that led to conceding goals despite his Premier League Golden Glove award.

At 27 years old, Onana is being considered as one of the options by Manchester United, and Inter CEO Marotta acknowledged that the player has been informed of their interest.

During the Gran Galà event, Marotta stated, as reported by The Athletic, “Manchester United have expressed an interest (in Onana) which may or may not lead to an offer in the next few days. Once that happens, both Inter and the player will carefully assess it.”

Furthermore, in an interview with Sky Italia, Marotta mentioned tha Onana hasn’t received any official offer from Manchester United yet.

Compared to De Gea, Onana is widely regarded as more skilled in ball distribution.

Onana, who reached the Champions League final and recorded 19 clean sheets across all competitions last season, still has four years remaining on his contract with Inter, having joined the club only last summer. He previously played under Ten Hag at Ajax.

Aside from Onana, Manchester United’s current goalkeeper options include Dean Henderson and Tom Heaton. Henderson is inclined towards a permanent move to Nottingham Forest after his loan spell last season, while Heaton recently had his contract extended for another year.
