Lukaku Benched for Champions League Final as Inter Milan Face Manchester City

Romelu Lukaku has been denied a spot in the starting lineup for Inter Milan in the Champions League final against Manchester City on Saturday, according to the club.

Manager Simone Inzaghi has opted to keep Lukaku on the bench for the crucial match, instead choosing Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko to lead the attack against Pep Guardiola’s side. Manchester City, who have already secured the Premier League and the FA Cup titles, are aiming to complete a historic treble, while Inter Milan, having won the Coppa Italia, are eager to claim their second major trophy of the season.

Lukaku has faced limited playing time throughout the season and has not started a single game in the Champions League. However, he has managed to find the back of the net three times in the competition, scoring against Viktoria Plzen, Porto, and Benfica. The Belgian striker has a total of 14 goals in all competitions, matching Dzeko’s tally, while Martinez leads the team with 28 goals.

Having joined Inter Milan on loan from Chelsea, Lukaku has been seeking a resurgence in his career after a challenging period at both club and international levels. A goal in the Champions League final could significantly alter the perception of his abilities, although it appears he will have to make an impact coming off the bench against Manchester City.

Lukaku will be eager to make an impact as a substitute while Inter strives to claim their first Champions League title since the 2009-10 campaign.
