Rwanda: Founder of Charis UAS Eric Rutayisire Muziga Leads the Development of Licensed Drones with AI Capabilities

Eric Rutayisire Muziga is a Rwandan entrepreneur who holds a Master’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He serves as the founder and CEO of Charis Unmanned Aerial Solutions (Charis UAS), which stands as Rwanda’s inaugural licensed service drone manufacturing company.

Charis UAS, established in 2014, stands as a pioneering force in the field. The company harnesses the power of artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies to develop autonomous vehicles. These vehicles are engineered to generate 3D geospatial data in near-real time. This innovative approach has positioned Charis UAS as a valuable resource for various industries, aiding them in making informed and timely decisions. Eric Rutayisire Muziga’s remarkable contributions in this arena have not gone unnoticed, as he has received several distinctions and awards for his ground-breaking innovations, according to a report by We Are Tech Africa.

Charis UAS specializes in the development and integration of sensor systems, drones, and data solutions to offer top-notch services. The company’s reach extends to multiple countries, including Tanzania, Senegal, Ghana, Gabon, Côte d’Ivoire, Republic of Congo, DRC, Angola, Uganda, and Kenya.

An impressive milestone for Rwanda, Charis UAS has introduced the Inganji drone, entirely conceived and manufactured by local engineers and pilots. This cutting-edge aircraft is noted for its exceptional features, including robust data security, energy efficiency, high-resolution capabilities, an intelligent zoom camera, and suitability for security and surveillance applications.

Furthermore, Charis UAS has developed Charis Analytics, a digital project manager tailored for critical infrastructure projects. This innovative tool digitizes worksites and offers real-time project tracking with actionable insights. It also facilitates collaboration among all stakeholders and expedites project completion.

Eric Rutayisire Muziga has also engineered a drone capable of eradicating mosquitoes across expansive areas, contributing significantly to the battle against malaria. Equipped with a 10-liter tank filled with insecticide to target larvae at their source, this invention was swiftly adopted by the Rwandan government.

In addition to his entrepreneurial ventures, Eric Rutayisire Muziga serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Crystal Ventures, a venture capital and private equity company. His remarkable achievements have garnered numerous accolades, including being featured in the 2019 Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the technology category and ranking in the Top 3 of the All Africa Business Leader Award. Furthermore, Charis UAS is a recipient of the 2023 Google for Startups Black Founders Fund.
