F1: Lewis Hamilton to join Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton to leave Mercedes to join Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton moving to Ferrari is the talk of the Formula 1 paddock. For many years now, rumours have been circulating of a resounding transfer of the Briton to Maranello. Only this time, it’s really serious, and it’s being relayed by numerous opinion leaders, starting with the very serious Anglo-Saxon media Autosport and Sky Sports.

The seven-time Formula 1 world champion is said to be in advanced discussions with the Scuderia about joining them from 2025. Talks could be concluded by the end of the week. If successful, Hamilton would join Charles Leclerc to form a true dream team.

The Cavallino has been making eyes at Lewis for years. But until now, he has always preferred to stay with Mercedes, who promised him better sporting and financial prospects. Except that the last two seasons have clearly wearied Lewis, who hasn’t scored a single victory since Abu Dhabi in 2021.

Hamilton currently has a contract valid until 2025 with the German team, but would have an exit clause to leave the star prematurely if necessary. A subtlety into which Ferrari has stepped.

Frédéric Vasseur, who has been in charge of the Reds for the past year, is said to have decided to go all out and give LH44 a run for his money. As it happens, Hamilton already worked with the Frenchman almost 20 years ago, when he made his name in Formula 3 and then in the GP2 Series with ASM/ART. Vasseur, who has every intention of reshaping the Scuderia to his liking and bringing it back to glory, is now pushing to convince his former driver that Ferrari would be a better way to end his career.

A potential arrival of Hamilton at Maranello would inevitably mean that Carlos Sainz, whose current contract expires at the end of the year, would be shown the door. The most plausible destination for the Spaniard would be Audi, where he would assume the role of natural leader from 2026, after a preparatory year as a Sauber driver.

At Mercedes, Hamilton’s succession is more open than ever. Will the star promote his protégé Frederik Vesti, recall Esteban Ocon, or even recruit Pierre Gasly, previously tipped to replace Sainz in red?

There’s no doubt that the mercato leading up to 2025 promises to be a lively one!
